Rome is the capital of Italy. It has been an important city in European history since its mythical founding in 753 B.C, especially during its time as the center of the Roman Empire and until this day as the seat of the Pope. Rome has a huge number of important historical buildings and squares, some of the world's most important cultural and archaeological treasures, and most famous tourist sights.

Rome is not the obvious choice for a family holiday, but rather the perfect destination for cultured urban holidays and romantic weekends. The tourist season runs from March until November, excluding July and August, during which the city can become unpleasantly hot, and December until February, where the city can be chilly and rainy. Yet visiting during winter can be recommended, since the city is less packed with tourists and the weather is relatively warm and dry compared to the harsher and wetter winters of Northern and Central Europe.

We have a broad selection of pensions, spa-, boutique- og luxury hotels in Rome, so you can be sure to find the accommodation you are looking for among our great hotel offers.

The Vatican is an independent mini-state in the middle of Rome. It is the home of the Pope and some of the most famous buildings in Rome, such as Saint Peter's Basilica and the Sistine Chapel.. The Peter's Basilica is the main church of the Roman Catholic faith, and one of the largest churces in the world. The Sistine Chapel is one of the most spectacular buildings in the world. While the exterior is unassuming, the interior is decorated by a number of great artistic masterpieces painted by Renaissance masters such as Michelangelo. Near the Vatican one can also find the Castel Sant’Angelo, an old fortress which today is a museum, and which has a great view of Saint Peter's Basilica.

If you are looking for a hotel near the Vtican, we recommend Starhotels Michelangelo.

Rome has two airports, Ciampino (CIA) and Fiumicino (FCO). Fiumicino, also known as Leonardo da Vinci Airport, is the largest airport in Italy, accepting nearly 38 million passengers per year. The much smaller Ciampino, which is located closer to the city, functions mainly as a hub for budget airlines.

Fiumicino is well-connected to Rome by trains, including a direct train to the central station, Termini. From Ciampino the city can be reached directly by bus and taxi.
